Roost

In collaboration with Hannah Riley

Roost is an original concept of a one-stop shop for a happy backyard hen ownership.

PROBLEM: More and more people are concerned with how food reaches their table. Some urban dwellers consider backyard chickens as a solution, but the challenges associated with hen ownership, such as setup, cleaning, feeding, and overall care for the hens stand in the way.

SOLUTION: We set out to create a branded company that would address the main challenges associated with hen ownership, making it a burden-free experience. We wanted our brand to visually convey the ease and excitement of backyard hen ownership, made possible by Roost.

AUDIENCE: Roost focuses on urban couples and families with kids who are looking for the farm experience in their own backyard, minus the mess.

TONE: Simple illustrations, a playful color palette, and a friendly geometric Avenir typeface help establish an approachable and welcoming brand tone and share the company’s excitement about the backyard hens with their customers.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES: Illustrations, patterns, brochures, business cards, posters, postcards, carriage packaging, feed packaging, aprons, t-shirts, mugs, van wrap design, buttons, marketing video, website design and development, and a pop-up shop.

We hand-coded Roost website with its users and their needs in mind, grounding our decisions on surveys and user testing. Roost website is more than a selling mechanism. It’s an informational hub for all the chicken lovers, as well as a place to get inspired to become a proud hen owner.
