I was tasked with creating the brand and marketing material for the Seattle Science Fiction Film Festival. I developed the concept using a classic science fiction story line that I adapted to be uniquely of Seattle.
Drawing inspiration from HG Well’s seminal “The War of The Worlds” I reimagined the space needle as a dormant alien robot that is activated by a lightning strike, and proceeds to wreak havoc on Seattle. From this concept I came up with the logos and the basis for the teaser trailer and print ads.
For merchandising I placed the logos on hats, mugs, and t-shirts in the branded colors. I also made a limited-edition t-shirt with the poster illustration printed on it for special contests and raffles.
For the print campaign, I took some of the more destructive sounding metaphors that you often hear in movie marketing and review writing and made them literal.
