The Seattle Animation Film Festival is an annual festival that welcomes audience members young and old to view and be an active participant in the animation genre. In order to spread word about the festival, a strong marketing campaign and brand needed to be established.
Challenge: To create an engaging marketing campaign to draw people to the Seattle Animation Film Festival and increase excitement toward the genre.
Solution: I took cues from the classic illustration styles from the 60’s to create a timeless branding style that would appeal to a wide range of audience members.
Role: Copywriting, Illustration, Layout, and Art Direction
I began the project by creating the logo which is located in the eye of the illustration. I kept the logo contained within a circle, cutting out letters created for the SAFF brand to give the sense of a film reel. The copy is playful and speaks to a wide audience range.
I chose black and white as the primary color palette. Secondary colors are reserved as the focal point of the eyes of the illustrations, creating an iconic, modern feel.
I created several variations of the illustrated figures that would appear throughout marketing as well as merchandise items for a cohesive, easily recognizable brand.
Merchandise was an important aspect of the project, to create takeaways from the festival and to help promote the branding.
