Our project parameters were to create a magazine that taught us a deeper understanding of typography, grids and branding. My goal was to create original content that people would connect with and want to read.
MY FIRST MAGAZINE

I talked to people about their reading preferences and current social media trends. I came to the conclusion of gathering user submitted stories that are not about putting our best face forward, they are about putting our real stories out there.
To gather stories I made a website that had a place for people to enter their own story and read other people’s stories. While working on this project I got feedback that a magazine all on Regret was depressing, so I decided make the second half of the magazine about how we work on things.
I have a passion for great photography and working out what tone is appropriate for content. Collaborating with photographers taught me a lot about communication; I learned to speak more descriptively about about lighting, angles and cropping.
I am lucky to have worked with talented photographers, it was an amazing experience and I hope to be fortunate enough to have more of these in my future. I feel that I learned a lot about matching typefaces to tone, learning about microtypography and becoming more comfortable with Indesign.
