Creating Stature Quarterly, an arts & culture magazine featuring interviews with explosive artists and skilled makers, was by far my favorite project because it allowed me to explore all different aspects of design.
It was a great challenge to design a whole magazine and it was important to break up the work into sections and get the initial pages right like the masthead and table of contents. Part of the fun though was being able to use my own artwork in some of these early pages.
My first article was a short “artist of interest” profile on a local Seattle illustrator named Olivia Knapp. Her beautiful, precise lines bring the reader in to explore the details of her work and serves as a visual appetizer for the rest of the magazine.
I used as much full page photography as I could and strived to highlight the work of each artist.
I exercised a lot of different skills in creating this magazine; one in particular was conducting interviews. I asked the best artists I knew to tell their story and, although we were allowed to use already published work as text in our projects, this gave the magazine a real sense of meaning.
I completed this project with a lot of passion, learned more about the people I look up to and got to further strengthen my skills in typography, layout design, logo design, and use my own photography and artwork throughout. Thanks for spending a minute with Stature Quarterly.
