Since 1997 the Capitol Hill Block Party has been a staple for Seattle. I wanted to create a campaign that captured the phrenetic energy of the festival. The sight, sound, and smell. The festival is loud, hot and wild, and the campaign intended to capture these characteristics.
Animals from the Northwest were chosen to represent festival goers. Partly because of the rich natural heritage in the Northwest, and partly because of the resemblance that festival goers often have to lumbering beasts.
The campaign needed to be wild. It needed to be grungy and tactile. It needed to have a vibrance and energy that matched the community that houses the event.
There aren’t any armadillos, fireflies or tigers. Just bears, elk and seagulls. The mascots should be illustrated in a consistent style, and should capture the energy of the festival.
